Generator500 kVA Scania
ApplicationLaboratory backup power
The challenge
Existing standby capacity was not sufficient for the laboratories.
Wits University had two smaller generators that were experiencing problems and did not provide sufficient output for the laboratory facilities during load shedding. The existing generators needed to be removed to make way for a larger standby-power solution.
GenTech's solution
A 500 kVA Scania generator configured for laboratory backup power.
Following discussions and consultation with Wits University, GenTech SA supplied a 500 kVA Scania diesel generator sized to support the required laboratory load during mains power interruptions.
Planning & logistics
Careful access, lifting and safety planning.
The project required planning around access, crane positioning, removal of the existing generator sets and placement of the new 500 kVA unit. The original project record notes that the lifting operation involved a 13-storey building and required careful consideration of daily university activities and site safety.
The result
Installation completed in three days.
GenTech SA completed the installation in three days. The new 500 kVA generator provided Wits University with a substantially larger standby-power solution for the laboratory facilities during load shedding. The original project record states that Wits University complimented GenTech SA on the completed work.
